Extending EV battery life: charging habits that actually matter
Battery degradation is gradual and mostly driven by daily charging habits, not dramatic events. A few adjustments go a long way over the life of the car.
Keep it between 20 and 80 percent
Charging to 100 percent daily and running the battery down to near-zero both accelerate wear. Most EVs let you cap charging around 80 percent for daily use — save the full charge for road trips.
Avoid parking at 100 percent for long periods
A battery sitting fully charged in Pakistan's summer heat degrades faster than one resting at a partial charge. If the car will sit for a few days, leave it around 50-60 percent rather than topping it off right before.
Limit frequent DC fast charging
Fast charging is convenient but generates more heat and stress than slow AC charging. Fine for occasional highway top-ups, but daily reliance on DC chargers will shorten battery life measurably over a few years.
Temperature matters more than mileage
Heat is the real enemy of lithium batteries. Shaded or covered parking during Pakistan's summer does more for long-term battery health than any charging routine.
