Charging an EV at home in Pakistan: a practical guide

Charging an EV at home in Pakistan: a practical guide

Most EV owners in Pakistan do over 90 percent of their charging at home. Getting the setup right makes ownership dramatically easier.

Check your sanctioned load

A typical 7 kW home AC charger needs a sanctioned load headroom of at least 8-10 kW. Many urban homes have 5 kW sanctioned load, so apply for an upgrade before your EV arrives.

AC vs DC charging

Home charging is almost always AC. A 7 kW wallbox adds roughly 40-50 km of range per hour on a typical EV. DC fast charging is for highways and top-ups, not daily use — frequent DC charging also stresses the battery more.

Solar pairing

With net metering, a 10 kW solar setup can realistically cover a daily commute of 40-60 km, making your per-kilometre cost close to zero. This is the single biggest financial advantage of EV ownership in Pakistan given current electricity tariffs.

UPS and load shedding

Load shedding is the most common concern. Schedule charging overnight when supply is most stable, and remember most EVs let you set charging windows from the app.
